Playtime Has Just Begun

The new $50,000 state of the art playground at Renaissance Academy has students lining up to use some of the new equipment.

Renaissance Academy’s new state of the art playground is finished. The new $50,000 playground features new equipment for students 5-12 to play on.

“We’ve always heard from families that our playground wasn’t up to standards,” said Principal David Krauss.

The board passed the funding for the playground last May and work began early this school year. According to Krauss the old playground was nothing compared to this one.

The new playground can hold up to 70 kids at once. Soft wood chips cover the ground around the playground in order to meet new safety law standards.

“They love it,” said Wendi Chaffin a first grade teacher at the school. “There is so much more room than the old playground and so much more the kids can do.”

Faculty members are not the only ones excited about the new playground. The new playground has also been received very well by the students.

“I love running around like a crazy maniac in there,” Austin, a fifth grade student, said.

The most popular new piece of equipment is the rock wall and an apparatus the students call the corkscrew things. The “corkscrew thing” is a large platform students can stand on with a pole that can spin you round and round.

“I love our new playground,” said Melody, a forth grade student. “The drill twirly is my favorite, I love it”
