No Arrests Yet In Super 8 Motel Armed Robbery

An armed robbery doesn't happen every day in Mount Pleasant. The Super 8 Motel was the lucky recipient of such an incident early Saturday morning.

Police have been working to find more clues in order to locate the suspect. The suspect is said to be a black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Mount Pleasant Sgt. Shawn Paull said, "We are currently reviewing a number of tapes down in that area. All we know is that he left southbound on foot. Whether he went to an apartment complex or he got in a vehicle that was south of there, we do not know at this point."

The clerk working at the time described the suspect as 6 feet tall, around 250 pounds, early to mid-twenties, a muscular build and scruffy facial hair, according to police records.

No one was injured in the incident, but the robber did get away with an undisclosed amount of money. This puts a scare into employees of Super 8 Motel, which is owned by LaBelle Management.

"I was scheduled to work on Saturday night. It was too scary for me to work the front desk alone after the robbery the night before, so I called in," said Christy Braford, a former Super 8 Motel employee.

Even though the robbery has had no effect on business, changes have to be made in order to make guests and employees feel safe in the motel.

Braford said, "I figured they would have had two people working the front desk for a while to help make the employees feel safe. This was not the case. They tried to make things go on as normal and I didn't think that was the right thing to do."
